چکیده
Despite the frequent use of riot control agents by European law enforcement agencies, limited information exists on this subject in the medical literature. The effects of these agents are typically limited to minor and transient cutaneous inflammation, but serious complications and even deaths have been reported. During the 1999 World Trade Organisation meeting and at the 2001 Summit of the Americas in Quebec, exposure to tear gas was the most common reason for medical consultations. Primary and emergency care physicians play a role in the first line management of patients as well as in the identification of those at risk of complications from exposure to riot control agents. In 1997 theNational Poisons Information Service in England received 597 inquiries from doctors seeking advice about problems related to crowd control. Our article reviews the different riot control agents, including the most common tear gases and pepper sprays, and provides an up to date overview of relatedmedical sequelae.

Tear gas has gained widespread acceptance as a means of controlling civilian crowds and subduing barricaded criminals. The most widely used forms of tear gas have been o-chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile and omega-chloroacetophenone. Proponents of their use claim that, if used correctly, the noxious effects of exposure are transient and of no long-term consequences. The use of tear gas in recent s...

Amputation rate was 16.66%. Associated nerve injury occurred in 44.44% ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Hot Tear Segregations on the Rolled Product Quality of Continuously Cast Steel
The main objective of this project was to investigate the behavior and the damaging effects of hot tear segregations in the continuously cast steel blooms on the final product quality. To achieve this aim, plant data from three different types of steels were used. Investigations using the scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) probe and metal...
